Reflecting on 2018

Reflecting on last year, I think it was a year full of so many activities that left me both emotional in a good way and also grateful. I can’t remember the last time I have had so much happen in my life in such a short time. The year started with a trip to Kenya where Axel and the older men from my village had to negotiate dowry payment. I was nervous as I wasn’t sure what to expect since none in my family knew so much about dowry negotiations. Luckily, Axel did such a great job.

Due to the number of things I had going on, I had to quit my job at FunCenter. I was disappointed as I loved my colleagues, and the working environment as well as my boss Jan at that time. It was important to acknowledge that I couldn’t plan my wedding, write bachelor and at the same time, create time for work and pay attention to my relationship. I put time and efforts on my bachelor thesis, and the most rewarding thing is that I passed

During my summer break, I travelled to Kenya. The first three weeks were intense as I was applying visa for both my mom and litter sister travel to Denmark. It was such a tiring experience but gladly, they got their visas.

Axel family traveled to Kenya for the first time, and I was nervous. I could not imagine them seeing where I grew up and the fact that they also had to spend a few nights in a small city in the village. It worried me so much. There is so much contrast in comparison to life here in Denmark. Apparently, it turned out that I was worried for nothing. My traditional wedding ceremony went well. They also enjoyed their stay and embraced the culture difference.

While in Kenya, and during a trip to Diani Beach, something huge happened in our lives. We have not shared it with anyone but our family and closest friend. Be back next week as I will be revealing our biggest secret.

My mom and my sister traveled to Denmark for the first time for my wedding in September. I am still pinching myself that they were here for three weeks. I never imagined that I would have my family visit me in this country where I call my second home. My mom walked me down the aisle and it was the best moment of my life.

Towards the end of the year, I experienced a burnout. I started to long for a weekend getaway as I felt that I was busy with so many things that we barely had a moment to BREATH. We were lucky to schedule two weekends in a row away from home. It felt amazing for both Axel and me, as we both needed time to switch off and focus on us.

So, that was it! These are the things that took place in the year of 2018. I am excited because the new year already seems to start with new experiences, that we can’t wait to share with you. What are some of your highlights from last year? Leave me a comment below.

Thank you so much for reading. Talk so soon, again!
