The Ugly Truth About Blogging And Challenges That I Face As A Blogger

Yesterday evening I sat on our couch after Axel left for an evening run. I wanted to brainstorm ideas for my upcoming posts. One thing that donned on me is that being a blogger has its ups and downs. I have been blogging for the last five years and experienced so many different things. Some of them have helped me grow and shaped me into being better in what I do. Then, there are those experiences that have left me feeling drained and perhaps with a lot of worries. Questioning myself if there is anyone who reads the articles that I share on this space.

As much as I love to create content for my blog, there are things that I find challenging about blogging. It is okay if you disagree with me but what I am about to share are things that are only based on my experience as a blogger.

Writing block

I often write articles that I publish very frequently. Coming up with fresh, new and useful ideas can sometimes be a struggle. Once in a while, I can sit to write or brainstorm, but my head is empty with no words or ideas to share. It is a super annoying experience. What I like to do when I hit the writing block is to leave everything, take a break, do something else that distracts me. It can take me a day or two, but usually, when I come back, I tend to have some thoughts that I can turn into a post.

The spam comments.

I HATE SPAM. I can’t tell you how times I have yelled to the computer 😀 right after I realize that the comment that just popped in as spam. Akismet is a plugin can detect all spam comments and directly sends them to a junk folder. All I need to empty it once in a while.

The process.

The process that is involved with blogging can be time-consuming. Beside brainstorming, I need to do research on the topics that I want to write about, edit the pictures, schedule posts and share them on all my social media. There is no easy way to get around this process of creating blog content. Though, I have learned to divide the amount of work on to different days. For, instance, I have days where I just sit and write all the possible Ideas that I have on my mind. Next day, I can choose to edit the pictures and so on. I like to spend an hour on each task due to the limited amount of time I have.

Not achieving results

When I started my blog, I was concerned with the number of people that visited my blog or left me a comment. I would get sad if the numbers who slide down to a point where I would feel demotivated to do something that I now love so much.  It took me a couple of years to get used to the fluctuations in numbers. I stopped the obsession, and now, I enjoy my journey of blogging.

SEO was one of the most nerve wrecking things I experienced when I moved from Blogger to WordPress. Even after spending so much time reading so many articles about SEO, I still could not get the hang of it. SEO is crucial as it helps in having more visitors.  It’s overwhelming at the start but once you get used to nailing those keywords, you will love it, and the more people will be visiting you on the blog.

These are just a few things that I found challenging. We only get to see or hear the good side of blogging and never the challenges that you and I encounter as a blogger. There are of course more other things, but I choose not to go into detail on each of them. What I wanted to say is that it is okay to meet these challenges. We are always learning and growing, and instead of giving up, know that you not alone. A little more practice and you will be good at everything before you even know it.

What are some of the challenges that you experience as a blogger? Would love to know and hear your thoughts.

As always, Thank you so much for reading this post
